Seeing What Is Hard to See

I sat, phone in hand. Do I text her or not text her? Am I out of line or am I doing what is right in God’s sight?

I didn’t know. But what I did know is that this man deserved more. . . He deserved more than a dirty office. . . More than dust bunnies lining his office floors. . . More than dirt and trash all over his room. . . More than thinking he’s having a normal conversation, when others are staring at filth.

My heart sank. Just because he was blind didn’t mean he should sit in filth. There were various reasons why I figured I couldn’t clean it myself, so I picked up my phone and texted his wife: “I’m sure you may not realize it, but — just a heads up — it could be a good idea to have your husband’s office cleaned.” I didn’t get a response. And, I never got a chance to go back to that office again, but I did get to thinking. . . Where might filth exist in my life? Where might I, myself, be blind to something God can clearly see? Where am I being negligent in ignoring a mess within the confines of my own life?

Because nothing is hidden from the Lord. . .

“And no creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” (Heb. 4:13)W e can try to ignore something. . . We can try to act like a familiar sin is okay. . . We can try to excuse away repeated bad actions. . .

But, God sees, just like I saw this man’s office. He sees plain as day.

He doesn’t see to condemn us; He sees with a heart to save us, to help us, to lead us, to forgive us, to guide us and to shepherd us in a new way.

Sometimes, friends, the mess I think God sees in me is pride. The idea that I can protect myself by helping others to make the right decision. “If only they ___, then I’ll be okay.” “If we do ___, then I won’t have to experience ___.”

God, you see me taking my trust out of you and putting it into my good idea. I’m sorry, Father. I want to trust you to protect me and to watch over things.W hat about you, my friend? Where are your dust bunnies? What dirt and grime do you think is hidden that God may be calling you to lay bare before Him?

Do it. He loves you. He will help you with a way out. “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Cor. 10:13)

Just don’t hide anymore, my friend. . .

Prayer: Father, I want to make you proud. I want to do good. I want to have it all together sometimes. Help me to see what you see about me, that may need to change. I am not afraid to grow, for it is you who wills and who works righteousness in me, by your grace. Today, I submit ____ to you. I need your help to change. Show me a new way. Lead me in your way. Grow me in love. Thank you for bringing this to the surface. I trust you with this, In Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
